Summer Jobs
June 11th, 2009 by BeckSummer is almost here. I’m proud of my son Isaac for finding a job in this tight economy. The I-man is going to paint. That’s right, he’s found a 40-hour a week job with decent pay and a skill that he can use for the rest of his life. This will be good for him. I think it will teach him responsibility and he’ll earn a paycheck so he can earn some spending and gas money.
I’ve always said summer time jobs are a great time to discover what you don’t want to do the rest of your life. Past summer jobs for me included a lawn mowing business and working on my grandfather’s ranch, which still is probably the most physically demanding job I’ve ever had. I also worked construction a couple of summers which also left me exhausted at the end of the day. Oh, and then my buddy Steve Pinnow left for the Marines and I was asked when between my junior and senior year in high school, if I wanted to replace him. It was only a Sunday morning job between 7 and noon and all I had to do was sit on my butt. So, I accpeted. Oh, the job was at KFLN in Baker, MT. I had a one hour show playing music followed by four hours of religious programming which I named “The God Squad.” Little did I know that I discovered my passion that summer and it lead to a career in broadcasting.
